Sita's Light: What's New

Blessed Friends,

Hoping you are all enjoying the beautiful start of Summer! It's been awhile and only because things have been busy for us! We capped things off with a fun time at  Jivamukti Yoga Center in NYC, 700 Voices and then at Unity in the Foothills in Torrington, CT. Thank you to kirtan promoter Bret Duback and Robin and Bob Werme of the Sage Center in Woodbury for hosting and supporting us!

Now it's time to take a little break from our traveling each weekend to different venues to play together in satsangs and kirtans around CT, NYC and Westchester.

We will continue to hold our monthly private satsang in Ridgefield, CT ~ usually the last Friday of each month. Please email for more details, if you are interested in attending.

I will also continue to do more of what has evolved over the past 3 months ~ playing live music for yoga classes! Very exciting and fun.  Throughout the summer and ongoing, Yogi Brian Buturla and I are teaming up at Ananda Yoga Studio in New Canaan, CT and also at the beautiful new Kaia Yoga Center in Westport, CT most Saturdays and some Tuesdays or Fridays. Also coming up on July  17th at YogaSpace in Brookfield, CT ~ I will be playing throughout Advanced Certified Jivamukti Yoga Teacher Jeanine Schimel's workshop. Looking ahead in the Fall ~ we return to Liberation Yoga in Mahopac and we're in the process of booking events for late September and beyond.

Where did the time go!? Amazing to think that we were all just having a fantastic time at the Redding Meditation Center on New Year's Eve and already the first month of 2010 is coming to an end. Many thanks to all of you who have come out to chant with us this past month. We've been pretty busy which is a good thing :) New Year's Eve was an awesome mix of Suan's chakra chimes, kirtan with us and the wonderful Eddy Nataraj, Heidi magnificently manning the gong for 108 just before the stroke of midnight and just the greatest group of about 30 people who came to ring out the old and ring in the new in a meaningful, soulful and fun way!

We followed that up by heading down to Bay Ridge Brooklyn the next weekend where our friends Patti and Joe hosted us for a first kirtan in the area. Last weekend we were part of a Haiti relief community event in Georgetown at the Yoga Shala where collections were taken for the town of Jacmel, Haiti.

And we end the month as usual at the home of Pia and Anil Britto where for almost a year we have held satsang with lots of joy.

Hard to believe October is flying by and we are heading into Winter here!
Excited to say we are doing sacred music somewhere every weekend except Thanksgiving and Christmas until the end of the year when we will welcome 2010 with a big kirtan bash! Satya and I are in the planning stages but we hope you will be planning to be with us for a very special evening!
More to come on that!
We are also excited to welcome Ginny back this week after two weeks in Japan studying Reiki and visiting all the sacred sites there. She's no doubt brought back some incredible energy to infuse our next string of kirtans.
Thanks to all of you who come out to support our efforts to be in sacred spaces and open hearts whenever and whereever we can. We try never to turn down requests to come to homes and even offices to inspire raising voices to the Divine. The blessings are immeasurable for us and we are humbled and grateful each time.

Wow...what a month it's been. I've now added a few photos from Deva and Miten's concert and workshop in Philadelphia from earlier this month. I clearly need a new camera as I now know that the one I have didn't really come away undamaged after last year's dunk in the Bahamas.
But there they are and Ginny and I had a great time!

Lots of kirtans have begun again so check the calendar. We continue with such special times each month at Pia and Anil's in Ridgefield. Please email me if you are in the area and would like to come. The space is limited so I have to know in advance about RSVPs for this.

Also we'll be back at Peace Light Love Yoga to help Allison celebrate one year there.

And lots more...including our big New Year's Eve plan that is evolving each day!

Still buzzing from last weekend's concert and voice workshop with Deva, Miten and Manose! What a great time as always! If you have never experienced these three amazing beings of Light, put it on your list of things to do!

Could it be that Fall is really just around the corner again? Where does the time go!?

Lots coming up so keep checking back for additions to the calendar. We continue to enjoy our monthly satsang at Pia's in Ridgefield. If you are in the area and would like to be on the guest list, please let me know. We are also looking ahead to being at Sacred Shakti again as well as a couple of new venues to be announced. And if you are ready to mark your calendar for New Year's Eve, know that you can come chant 2010 in with us!!
What better way to spend the evening than with some yoga, chai and vegan snacks, Dances of Universal Peace and chanting beginning at 11pm right through midnight!! More details about where to come but count on not just Sita's Light being there. We're inviting ALL the kirtan wallahs we know to join us!

This weekend I am off to Philadelphia PA to be with my dear friends Deva and Miten for their concert and voice workshop. More on that when I return!

What an awesome night of chanting with Mirabai and Friends in CA!! Many thanks to dear her and the other several musicians that came out to play with us on a beautiful Full Moon night at the Yoga Society of San Francisco. Felt right at home and hope we can do it all again sometime!

Still recovering from an awesome weekend with Professor Paramjeet Singh!!
Ginny, Suan, Fumio and I traveled 6 hours by car to spend two days at GuruGanesha Singh's home in Herndon, VA basking in a classical Indian music experience like no other. Prof Paramjeet taught us a series of vocal exercises to expand 4 octave range, gave a tabla lesson to Fumio, a harmonium lesson to the group and led us in learning both a morning and evening raga. 20 of us basically sang our hearts out all weekend! Unforgettable for sure and we hope to get another chance with this true master soon!

700 Voices was wonderful as we got to be in the mix with Wah!, Shantala, Sat Katar, David Newman. The true highlight was doing original peace chant for the World Peace Sanctuary's ceremony on Sunday morning. Very moving time as everyone participated in placing the flags of the countries and then chanting "May Peace Prevail on Earth" with us.

Happy Monday to all! We are still glowing from the wonderful evenings spent both Friday and Saturday in sacred spaces! Each time it is always so great to see new people come out to explore the joys of devotional chanting with us and to see the more seasoned smile, laugh, cry and buzz!

As we move forward into summer soon, we are excited to share we will be playing the first night of 700 Voices at the World Peace Sanctuary, attending a classical Indian music workshop with Snatam and GuruGanesha's teacher in Virginia, playing for two yoga classes and doing more kirtans at private homes and yoga studios right into September.
And in August, I have the great pleasure of joining Mirabai and Friends in San Francisco for a night of kirtan with her group :)

In the Fall, we hope to keep sharing kirtan Westchester and CT and looking forward to the opportunity to do the same in NYC.

In the glow that Snatam, GuruGanesha and Manish Vyas brought into our lives this past week. We also welcomed Judith back last night at Santosha for an intimate Full Moon satsang. She'll be moving to California in a few weeks but in the meantime, expect she'll be with us at upcoming events :)
Come if you can Friday May 15th to Sacred Shakti Yoga Studio in Ossining, NY. This is a new venue for us and we are excited to bring kirtan to Shelley and her students as well as area residents who may be new to the bliss of chant!

Happy Mother's Day to all!

Or maybe catching my breath! So much activity in the past few weeks! Time spent at SUNY Purchase with Satya and Ma Kirtan was awesome. Many thanks to her, Bill and Grace. Fumio has a brand new set of tablas which sound absolutely wonderful and keep him and all of us smiling. We have been thrilled with the addition of Suan Armstrong with her magic flutes bringing lots of depth and joy to our kirtans.

This week we are all happily anticipating a Wednesday evening concert by Snatam Kaur and GuruGanesha and also getting to spend some time with them. In July, Fumio, Suan, Ginny and I will travel to VA to attend a weekend workshop with Snatam's classical Indian music teacher. The week rounds out with kirtan at Santosha Yoga Center in Newtown CT so come if you can to honor the Divine Mother AND all our Mothers for Mother's Day weekend.

Spring has gotten off here with a whirlwind of satsangs and also enjoying the wonders of Wah! who was here in Connecticut recently :) As always at this time of year, changes abound and Sita's Light is evolving with new musicians and new places to play each week both in sacred spaces and private homes.

I am finally getting a chance to share some upcoming dates for Satsangs with you. If you are in the areas, please do come and bring a friend or loved one to share the blissful experience with you too!

And for anyone out on the West Coast near San Francisco...I've accepted an invitation to join Mirabai and Friends for an evening of sacred music!

Okay I've been convinced by lots of friends and some family who actually get what I am doing with this work and think it needs to be way out there all over the place :) Sita's Light will soon be available on both CD Baby and ITunes.

Wow what a great weekend of chanting for Shivaratri! Thanks to all who came out to play with me and also hosted - Sandy at Kishna Yoga, Barbara at Santosha and Pia in Ridgefield. I am sure Shiva heard us!

Hope 2009 has gotten off to a great start for each and every one of you!

I took a short break in January but I am now ready to hit the kirtan road again!

This month marks the one year anniversary of the release of Sita's Light and what a year it has been! Look around and notice that kirtan is no longer the domain of just the wonderful and inspiring masters like Krishna Das, Wah!, Snatam, Deva Premal and Miten, etc. There are so many of us "regular" folks now doing weekly/monthly kirtans in our homes, area yoga studios and spiritual spaces everywhere. That's what it was always all about and I am so grateful for the opportunities I have had this past year to share a part of my spiritual practice in this way!

So come and join me if you are in the area and let's make sacred music together! Check the calendar section for events coming up with more still to be confirmed for March and ahead in April. And
of course, please feel free to forward the info to anyone you feel might enjoy these devotional gatherings!

I have also been asked to hold satsang at private events, so if you or someone you know would like to have an even more intimate experience of kirtan, meditation, etc at home with a small group of family and friends, please feel free to contact me.

The 15th already! Amazing how quickly time is going!

Hoping everyone had a great start to 2009.

Taking a little kirtan break here in January but be sure to check the calendar section as I have begun adding some events in February with more to come soon!

On this Winter Solstice day, I look back with gratitude to all who have helped support Sita's Light and in turn support Oceana through the sales of the CD.

A big thanks to all who have come to share in kirtan with us all around CT and NY.

Tomorrow night we take in all the big energy of the biggest full moon of the year at Peace Light Love Yoga Studio in Pawling, NY. More info and directions in Calendar section. Turnout is expected to be grand and we're looking forward to raising our voices to the Divine for this final "formal" kirtan of the year!
